Dokken achieved global fame in 1983 as one of the most successful bands to emerge from Los Angeles' era-defining metal scene. They'd originally formed in Southern California in the late '70s, and went on to have initial success in Germany, where the group recorded their debut, Breaking The Chains, in 1981. Back in U.S. after finishing the album, Don remembers, "playing clubs in the L.A. music scene alongside groups such as Van Halen and Quiet Riot" while they shopped for a U.S. deal. Elektra signed them in '82, and they went on to multi-platinum success. When Don Dokken was revisiting the original multi-track tapes for a 25th anniversary edition of Breaking The Chains last year, he came across the long-forgotten masters from those seminal pre-Elektra gigs. Previously unissued with three previously unreleased songs, they present one of metal's most iconic bands at the hungry and powerful moment just before their career became legend.
